Arthur C. Clarke's 2061: Odyssey Three returns to the universe of 2001 a third time, following Heywood Floyd aboard a voyage to Halley's Comet as the consequences of the monolith's work ripple outward toward Jupiter's transformed moons. Where the first Odyssey traded in awe and the second in cautious diplomacy, this installment is the work of a writer comfortable in his own mythology, less interested in mystery than in the hard mechanics of how humanity actually lives and travels among worlds it no longer fully controls. Clarke writes the far future the way an engineer sketches a bridge, grounding cosmic scale in orbital timing, fuel budgets, and the quiet competence of people doing difficult work far from home. It stands as the connective tissue of the sequence, a bridge between the enigma of the first book and the resolution Clarke was still building toward.

Stated first edition hardcover dated January 1988, in a Michael Whelan dust jacket, housed in black boards with gilt spine lettering. The jacket shows light edge and spine wear consistent with age and shelf handling, and the spine carries a corresponding touch of softening, but the artwork remains bright and the panels unclipped. The binding is sound and the text block clean throughout. A presentable copy of a late-career Clarke first edition, showing its years gently.
